Run Around

Run Around
I'm late for my part in the Hollywood movie
I slept through the night and the world keeps on moving
I wake up early just to have a decent place
on a train full of people wearing Monday face
they pile up all around me, but I don't mind:
they're normal people and I'm just and ordinary guy
off we go on another day
I'm barely standing while I'm dreaming on the subway
someone shake me awake, I can barely breath
don't keep me stuck here when I say I want to leave
We run around and around with the wind in our face
blowing past worries with an elegant grace
we run around and around just to make it all work
like all the other people on the face of the earth
we run around
power lunch, back to work, before I hit the gym
I do pilates for an hour but I don't get slim
shower off, powder up, have a real quick shave
throw on my favorite pair of Levi's and I'm on my way
off we go on another night
I've got a pocket full of whiskey and I'm feeling right
I've got dancing feet and a rubber soul
I've got a feeling and a ticket to the show

Ain't Over Yet

Ain’t Over Yet
I feel a rhythm while it’s burning in my head
It holds my body hostage, keeps me sweating in my bed
I feel it in my fingers, coursing through my veins
Begging me to kick the horse and deftly grab the reins
Mutter turns to rumble in this unrelenting heat
I can feel the embers burning in the earth below my feet
I’m a sinner in your gallows; this floor is bound to drop
And common sense would tell me to stop
But don’t you tell me to stop
When you see red
Don’t hum my song
Then tell me it’s all in my head
I see the end
I feel the sweat
I know it’s close
But it aint over yet
Fruitless endeavors are the folly of a man
Bound to watch the wind while holding tighter to the sand
No one knows the answers to the questions in my head
They just mumble incoherent and smile back at me instead
But the wheels keep turning, cut right through me
Scars my mind like an old snuff movie
But the credits are forgotten, the bubble’s gonna pop
Now common sense would tell me to stop
But don’t you tell me to stop
When you see red
Don’t hum my song
Then tell me it’s all in my head
I’m breathing fire
Burning Hot
I’m so damn close
So don’t you tell me to stop
When you see red
Don’t hum my song
Then tell me it’s all in my head
I see the end
I feel the sweat
I know it’s close
But it aint over yet

Torn Apart

Torn Apart
Afraid of moving backwards, I stand like an army of one
the battle has been raging but the war has just begun
the no-man's-land between us begins to grow
I brace myself in silence before the show
we are torn apart
from two sides of a single hart
I'm broken without your kiss
It took me so long to believe
that things were ending anyway
I cried the first time you took to flight
now I'm standing here all alone and I'm prepared to fight
we are torn apart
from two sides of a single heart
I'm broken without your kiss

Blown Away

|

Blown Away
A light from the doorway
cast on the ceiling
your overstated silhouette
I bite back the nervous
uneasy feeling
it hasn't caught up with me yet
but I might be out of my place
roll back your sleeves and
your hands are speaking
looks like they've got a lot to say
why don't you say it to my face?
you break my heart
I'm blown away
down and out
you're such a pitiful teacher
wring my collar
break me down and start me up again
I'm just blown away
hold me down
you're such a pitiful teacher
wring my collar
break me down and start me up again
fear like a toxin
the neighbors are watching
some say the Lord is watching too
I know you don't want to hear it
but they're your own words
act like he's never watching you
I might be out of my place
a fight in the driveway
up against the car
now its only me and you
why don't you say it to my face
you break my heart
I'm blown away
down and out
you're such a pitiful teacher
wring my collar
break me down and start me up again
I'm just blown away
hold me down
you're such a pitiful teacher
wring my collar
break me down and start me up again

SOHO

|

SOHO
We were fighting at the show
TV on the Radio
so you left with an asshole
but you where only nineteen
and living the American dream
pulling off you r skin-tight jeans
when your agent called to say so
maybe that's not fair
and I'm wrong
or maybe you don't care
and we both should just move on
Just one night for you to throw it all away
one last fight on the streets of SOHO
wasted there, our love affair
I hope you like walking back home alone
Well, that was several years ago
I can't forget it though
you left me in a deep hole
I wonder how you've been
now that you're not so green
are you living on the silver screen
or did your agent leave you solo
maybe that's not fair
and I'm wrong
or maybe you don't care
and I should just move on
Just one night for you to throw it all away
one last fight on the streets of SOHO
wasted there, our love affair
I hope you like walking back home alone

Going Home

|

Going Home
Two ordinary people
holding on to lifetimes of regret and doubt
one momentary mis-step, innocent but careless
that follows you for your whole life
Home
going home
home is lying in my bed again
home
I'm so tired
douse my fire
now I'm going home

Gimmejussaminute
Take a second, babe, I'll tell you who I am
'cause there's a lot about me, honey, you don't understand now
I'm not the kind of man that likes to sit and talk
but you can call me Johnny Bravo, got a hell of a walk, yeah
Gimmejussaminute, gimmejussaminute, gimmejussaminute, gimmejussaminute, gimmejussaminute babe
I'm trying to give you just a little shuck and jive
but all you want to know is what kind of car I drive, well
I've got a big banana on my cherry Shwinn
so you can hop up on the handles and we'll take a spin, babe
Gimmejussaminute, gimmejussaminute, gimmejussaminute, gimmejussaminute, gimmejussaminute babe
I know you wrote me off
'cause I can't pay your cost
well that's your greatest loss

Turn On A Dime

Turn On A Dime
Honey, if you're waiting for someone else to fill you cup
you can spin your wheels while you're in that rut
with your eyes held shut
you're like a lemon on fire
Stop your complaining 'cause no one wants to hear you cry
'cause you're one dark cloud in a big blue sky
and you wonder why
I'm laughing all the while
'Cause one of these days you're gonna pull out of the rut
you're gonna be fine, just fine, just fine
and you and me, babe, we're gonna live after the cut
because love can turn on a dime
Honey, fire your finest, 'cause I was never taught to fight
but I'll do it wrong until I get it right
and I'll go all night
what ever makes you smile
So let's dance, your Highness
oh, let that anger move your feet
and let my rhythm make your beat complete
when you feel that heat
don't let it drive you wild
'Cause one of these days you're gonna pull out of the rut
you're gonna be fine, just fine, just fine
and you and me, babe, we're gonna live after the cut
because love can turn on a dime

A Whisper in the Background
I try to keep it down
but these walls are like paper
I can hear a TV through the floor
I hear every sound
from my lovely neighbors
but I don't want to hear them
anymore
All the while my head's been spinning
brought me to my knees
here I am with my hands on my head
I beg for quiet, please
but it's always there
just a whisper in the background
I can't turn my head down
I can't turn my head down
I still hear it
I still hear it
Oh, the rain
it falls to my head on a sound wave
and turns my skylight into a drum
I beat-beat-beat my way through a night
of no sleep
I can't keep
trying to ride the gain
until the night fades into day
All the while my head's been spinning
brought me to my knees
here I am with my hands on my head
I beg for quiet, please
but it's always there
just a whisper in the background
I can't turn my head down
I can't turn my head down
I still hear it
I still hear it
I still hear it
I still hear it

Cut And Run

|

Cut and Run
Teenage mother bringing home the bread and butter in a myriad of shady ways
because a boy, named Ben, brought a bitter end
to a life-long dream of the stage
she was a southern belle and the boy meant well
but he left her in a fit of rage
now it's a big bad world for a small town girl
just trying to earn an honest wage
and baby says
She don't mind the dirty looks
and she won't tell you her real name
she's not afraid to bait the hook
she's a product of a hustle
cut and run
before you put a young girl to shame
Holly-roller-daddy's her controller, sewing evil in her heart
he's a big man too, with a small world-view
fucking with her from the start
well, I confess, she's a real hot mess
but baby ain't nobody's fool
although she can't afford to even praise the Lord
'cause faith is such a heavy tool
and baby says
She don't mind the dirty looks
and she won't tell you her real name
she's not afraid to bait the hook
she's a product of a hustle
cut and run
before you put a young girl to shame
oh, it's a God-damn shame

Dad's LPs Oakland, California
Dad’s LPs is a rock, pop band with its cornerstones consisting of the powerhouse vocals of John Morales and the emotive voice of Chris Twomey. This is punctuated by Andrew Harris’ sharp guitar attack, the staccato rhythm guitar work of Jay Seals. Most importantly though, they are a band of songwriters who love to create, play, and record original music. ... more
